My Woodworking Books

my woodworking booksAs of this posting I have been fortunate enough to write and release five books. My first book is on making acoustic guitars, and has been my most popular work. I also have others on making wooden rings, making kids toys, guitar making tips, and first words for kids. All of these are centered around woodworking.

I have always been interested in writing, and even through school I was always able to write well. Having been a woodworker for a long time, it was only natural that the two loves would combine at some point.

I wrote my books from the perspective that you know very little about the subject…which is why you bought a book. In many books, they tell you to buy fancy equipment or machines, but I do not. My woodworking books help you rely on the tools that you already have. They also focus on inexpensive finishing methods that are easy, and they will help you get closer to your goals. Here they are:

Acoustic Guitar Making

My first book is about guitar making, and is called Acoustic Guitar Making: How to Make Tools Templates and Jigs. I wrote the book because I was frustrated as a new guitar maker with all the things I had to learn before I learned how to make a guitar.

It seemed odd to me that a book wouldn’t have all that information, but after learning more, I realized that it would have been 10,000 pages if it did. Books can only hold so much, and my book is a perfect companion to any step by step book.

How to Make Wooden Rings

My second book is called Wooden Rings: How to Make Wooden Rings by Hand. This book came from a decision I made to make my own wedding ring. I have made many rings in the past, and wanted a wooden wedding ring. After making that ring, which has a titanium ring on the inside that you can’t see when I’m wearing it, I wrote the book.

The instructions for my wedding ring are also inside, as well as about 50 other example rings. I focus on the smallest possible number of tools to accomplish the project, which is super helpful for new woodworkers who have only a few tools.

100 Words for Kids

The next book I wrote for my son. I wanted a fun way to teach him all about tools, and get him started learning their names. So, I created a book with 100 tools from my shop, each with their names next to them. It’s called 100 Words for Kids: Tools.

There are a few tools on each page, which has a wood background, and the names are next to each tool. This makes it easy to flip through and learn tool names together. There are some adults that I showed this book to that had no idea what some of the names were.

Wooden Tools for Kids

My fourth book was also written as a result of my tiny boss. I made my son a whole set of wooden tool toys, and he really loved them. It’s called Wooden Tools for Kids. There are over twenty different projects inside, and all of them are fun for kids to play with.

Wooden heirloom toys are wonderful for kids, and they encourage the imagination. My son loves playing with all of these toys, and it was a pleasure to make them for him.

1,001 Guitar Making Tips

My fifth book is on acoustic guitar making, like my first book. However, this is a collection of tips that will help you build a better guitar. It’s called 1,001 Acoustic Guitar Making Tips for Beginners.

The book is a direct result of the popularity of the tips section from my first book, and is broken into sections of the guitar. Each section is treated with several helpful tips, and you can easily read through them before starting that part of the guitar. Tips are great, because they help you avoid mistakes that are common as a beginner.
