How to Make an Electric Bass – 24 Video Series

brian forbes westfarthing woodworks author biography about me experience

how to make an electric bassHow to make an electric bass is a 24 video series that details the guitar making process from start to finish. The videos are designed to be watched in any order you like. Feel free to watch from start to finish, or jump to the area that you want to learn about.

The first two videos in the series are right here, and more can be found by looking in the Guitar Making section of my website. These two videos cover the neck and the body. They detail the woods used, and the construction methods to produce each section of the guitar.

Making an electric bass is a great introduction to making guitars as a hobby. After watching this video, browse around my website for more information on woodworking, wood finishing, and guitar making.

How to Make an Electric Bass – 24 Video Series, Part One “The Neck.”

This video covers making the neck, the woods used, and how to accomplish the glue up. This is an example of a laminated neck design, where a wide flat piece of Curly Maple is cut into strips, turned on edge, and glued together. This creates an interesting look to the neck, and adds strength.

How to Make an Electric Bass – 24 Video Series, Part Two “The Body.”

Part Two covers wood selection for the body. It also explains how to cut the blanks and glue them together to form the body. Since this guitar will have a through the body style neck, the pieces are made differently than most bodies. This video shows how to create the pair of wings that are glued to the neck, rounding out the shape.

Six Gun Guitars is now Westfarthing Woodworks. Anything that you used to be able to find on the sixgunguitars website can now be found on westfarthingwoodworks. If you have any questions about these two videos in the series, please leave a comment. I will be glad to answer them. Happy building.

My book, Acoustic Guitar Making: How to make Tools, Templates, and Jigs shows many aspects of guitar making. With over 500 pages and 1600 images, this books has a ton of information for the beginning acoustic guitar maker.
